DUNDRUM CASTLE
One of Ulster’s most impressive medieval remains, situated on the western shore of Dundrum Inner Bay. This 12th-century castle with its circular four-storey high keep was built on the summit and slopes of a 200-foot-high hill. There were four main building periods at the castle. It was progressively strengthened and altered over a period of 450 years until its eventual ruination at the hands of the Cromwellian forces. Each of these building phases improved defences and the living conditions within the castle.
The works include:
Conservation of the Castle Curtain Walling, The Keep and Blundell House including, repairs to unstable structures, structural consolidation, grouting of deep voids, protective capping of wall heads, repointing and vegetation control and removal.
