REDBURN COUNTRY PARK, COURTYARD RETAINING WALL RESTORATION

Listing: Not listed - historic structure (Pre 1919)

Project Carried out: March 2023 – June 2023

Basalt and red brick, former courtyard wall, now part of Holywood Men’s Shed Programme. Sections of the wall had collapsed, and the wall had become unsafe.

Works included the sympathetic removal of extensive vegetative growth on the wall including established ivy. Reduction in wall height and stabilisation of wall head prior to formation of a half-moon coping run in lime mortar. Rebuilding of damaged and collapsed sections of stonework, spot re-pointing with lime mortar and replacement of rotten timber batons in wall with reclaimed red brick.  Insertion of five steel and brick piers built to support wall with copings to match the main wall. Works completed on a live site while the Men’s Shed group continued to operate.
